    Private Health Fund Changes

You may have heard about the private health changes coming as of 1st April 2019.

We are happy to announce that the APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association) have announced that pilates-informed exercises prescribed by Physiotherapists will continue to receive rebates in one-on-one and group classes. This includes our Physio Mat Class and Physio Reformer Class  formerly known as Mat Pilates & Reformer Pilates.

You may have noticed a change in our advertising and class names this year, this is due to the new guidelines set out by the APA so you can continue to get private health rebates if your policy allows it. You can call your health fund quoting private health code: 560 for Physiotherapy group classes.

Physiotherapy practice continues to be recognised as high-value, evidence-based care. At Baw Baw Physio & Fitness we require all clients interested in joining any of our classes to attend a pre-assessment appointment which gives the treating practitioner time to do an individualised assessment. We also offer a free review appointment once you have been doing group classes for a little while. This gives you a chance for quality one-on-one time with the practitioner who takes your class and re-assess your progress.

Our Classes will continue to have a wide range of exercises prescribed by our therapists, which may include:

    • balance
    • pilates
    • strength
    • foam rolling
    • resistance training
    • stretching.

All classes will continue to be adaptable to each individual and exercise modifications can always be made if needed.

    How will this affect you?

    • these changes do not apply to clients who are undertaking Pilates classes under worker’s compensation or third party TAC claims
    • clients who are not claiming rebates from a health insurance fund are unaffected by the changes
    • clients who claim a rebate from a health insurance fund for their Pilates exercise class, there will be subtle changes, including a change in name as we can no longer use the term “Pilates” Class

Health rebates may be available for our physio mat and physio reformer classes, but is not available on our “clinical pilates” classes.
